Be Tobacco Free

Welcome to a healthier VA…

In October 2012, the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System became tobacco-free, both indoors and outdoors – for all properties except in designated tobacco areas. This new policy change will affect the main medical center campus in Bay Pines, and all satellite outpatient clinic locations to include Bradenton, Cape Coral, Naples, Palm Harbor, Port Charlotte, Sarasota, St. Petersburg, and Sebring. This policy covers all tobacco products, including chewing tobacco and vapor/e-cigarettes, and extends to everyone who uses tobacco--patients, visitors, employees, volunteers, students and vendors.

With this new change in policy, we hope to:

  • Demonstrate our commitment to improve the health of patients and their families, residents, employees, volunteers and the community
  • Restrict tobacco use to provide a healthier Bay Pines VA Healthcare System
  • Increase hospital involvement in treating nicotine addiction
  • Set an example that other organizations and businesses can follow

As a health care provider charged with providing the very best care to our nation’s heroes, the Bay Pines VAHCS is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for employees, patients, staff, and visitors and to promoting positive, healthy behaviors.

If you currently use tobacco and would like to cut back or quit, the Bay Pines VAHCS can help!

The Bay Pines VAHCS offers Tobacco Free program for Veterans, employees, and their significant others. Tobacco treatment coaches offer the highest level of support, strategies, education and tools such as nicotine replacement therapy and medications. Join the many Veterans who are free from tobacco after decades of use. It's your time! To learn more or to get involved, call 727-398-6661, extension 14922.

Quit Smoking Now is a 1-hour a week program, with the fourth session being the quit day. The program is designed by ex-smokers, for smokers who want to quit. We look forward to equipping you with all you will need to remove tobacco from your life for good.
