Bay Pines, Fla. – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (BPVAHCS) will host its ninth annual VA2K event at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center and at the Lee County Healthcare Center on Wednesday, May 15. The events are being held to help raise awareness of VA’s commitment to ending Veteran homelessness. The events also coincide with National Employee Health and Fitness Day.

  • The VA2K event at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Registration and donation tables will be set up at the Fisher House located across from Timuchuan Lake. The route will begin at Timuchuan Lake and continue along the perimeter. Click here to view a campus map.
  • The Lee County Healthcare Center will host a separate VA2K event from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. Registration tables and the start of the route will be held in front of the main entrance.

“This is a great opportunity for VA employees, Veterans and others to participate in an event that nearly all VA facilities across the country will be hosting on May 15,” said Nicholas Godbey, education technician and chair of the Employee Wellness Committee at the BPVAHCS. “Whether you team up with a coworker, friend, or participate on your own, there’s no better time than now to step up your fitness level and support this event.”

The VA2K is free and open to employees, Veterans, and the general public. In lieu of a registration fee, participants are encouraged to bring a donation to help support Veterans participating in the Homeless Veterans program. Donation items needed include: toiletries, new clothing and shoes, backpacks, sun screen, bug repellant, and rain gear.

The VA2K is open to people of all fitness levels and can be done over a lunch break. For additional information and more event details, please contact Bay Pines VAHCS Occupational Health at 727-398-6661 extension 4225.
