Bay Pines VA Healthcare System
Bay Pines VA to Display Clothesline Project during Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April 12, 2019
BAY PINES, Fla. – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System will display a Clothesline Project in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month on April 30, 2019, from 10:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the courtyard between buildings 100, 1 and 111 at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center. The clothesline is a visual display that raises awareness of Military Sexual Trauma, sexual assault and sexual abuse. To “break the silence,” male and female Veterans have designed shirts that reflect their experiences of sexual trauma and recovery. The first Clothesline Project was hosted in 1990 to make statistics “come to life” and to convey, in a powerful way, the impact of sexual violence. The Clothesline Project display is open to the public. Click here to access a campus map and directions.
About one in four women and one in eighty-five men have told their VA healthcare providers that they have experienced sexual trauma in the military. Every VA Medical Center has a MST Coordinator who can refer treatment services and other resources. More information can be found here.
