Bay Pines VA Continues to Hold Legal Clinics for Veterans in Manatee and Sarasota Counties in 2019

Bay Pines, Fla. - The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) program has extended opportunities in 2019 for Veterans under VA care seeking civil legal services in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

  • Bradenton Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) Opportunities: Legal clinics will be available from 9:30 – 3:00 p.m. in the Mental Health Group room on Monday, February 11; Monday, March 11; Monday, April 8; Monday, May 13; Monday, June 10; Monday, July 8; Monday, August 12; Monday, September 9; Monday, October 7; Monday, November 4; Monday, December 9.   • Sarasota Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) Opportunities: Legal clinics will be available from 9:30 – 3:00 p.m. in the first-floor conference room on Monday, January 28; Monday, February 25; Monday, March 25; Monday, April 22; Monday, May 20; Monday, June 24; Monday, July 22; Monday, August 26; Monday, September 23; Monday, October 28; Monday, November 25; Monday, December 16. All services will be provided on a first come, first serve basis with the last application being accepted at 2:30 p.m. on both days. Legal services available include: family law, housing, consumer, bankruptcy, advanced directives, licensing, sealing/expungement, disability service connected, and discharge upgrades.

The MLP program is a health and legal alliance between the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center, Stetson University Veterans Law Institute, and Bay Area Legal Services.

The program is designed specifically for Veterans enrolled for care with the Bay Pines VAHCS (some exceptions may apply) who are in need of legal representation/consultation for non-criminal offenses, who may not otherwise be able to afford legal representation. Services are provided by MLP attorneys at no cost. The program became available to Veterans in February 2017.

The MLP Program office is headquartered in building 100, room 1E-241 at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center. Legal services are provided there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (closed for one-hour lunch). Walk-ins are seen in the morning (9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) and scheduled appointments are booked in the afternoon.
