Annual Veterans Day Ceremony to take place on Nov. 11

Bay Pines, Fla. – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Sunday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will take place in the courtyard located between buildings 2 and 37 at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center Campus. The event is open to all Veterans, their family and friends, and the general public.

Highlights of the ceremony will include local VA leaders from the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, St. Petersburg VA Regional Office, Bay Pines National Cemetery, and U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (FL-13). The distinguished keynote speaker for the event will be U.S. Army Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Mark Hertling. Hertling is a CNN national security, intelligence and terrorism analyst. Hertling served 37 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army.

The master of ceremonies for this year’s event will be Steve Jerve. He is the Chief Meteorologist for WFLA News Channel 8. Jerve provides workday weather forecasts on News Channel 8’s 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts.  

The event will also include a musical performance by Vocal Command USA; a special parade of colors provided by local Veteran Service Organizations; and traditional military presentations to include the posting and retiring of the U.S. Flag, a firing salute, and taps performance and more. 

Important note for attendees and local media:
Signage will be posted around the medical center campus to direct visitors to the venue. Reserved and general parking will be available nearby. A shuttle service will also be available to provide transportation for guests from parking lots to the ceremony area. The event will take place outdoors. The Bay Pines VAHCS encourages all attendees to dress appropriately in the event of inclement weather.
