October 10, 2018
Bay Pines, Fla. – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) program will host a Living Wills Clinic on Thursday, October 25, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will take place in the auditorium located in building 20 at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center. Click here to view driving directions and a campus map.
All services will be provided on a first come, first serve basis with the last application being accepted at 1:30 p.m. Veterans are encouraged to arrive early.
Volunteer attorneys will aid Veteran patients with completing health care surrogate and advanced directive forms in accordance with Florida Law. These documents are designed to help legal surrogates, family members, and health care providers make decisions on behalf of a patient in the event the patient is unable to communicate his/her wishes due to medical issues.
The MLP program is a health and legal alliance between the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, Stetson University Veterans Law Institute, and Bay Area Legal Services. The program is designed specifically for Veterans enrolled for care with the Bay Pines VAHCS (some exceptions may apply) in need of legal representation/consultation for non-criminal offenses, and who may not otherwise be able to afford legal assistance. Services are provided by MLP attorneys at no cost. The program became available to Veterans in February 2017.
