Bay Pines Opens New “Fast Track” Emergency Dept. Program
September 13, 2018
BAY PINES, FL – To improve Emergency Department (ED) efficiency at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center, the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System launched a new program called “Fast Track” late last month.
The new program was designed to accommodate patients who present to the ED with less severe medical issues and who could be served more quickly outside the traditional ED process. More simply, patients who are appropriate for Fast Track services, can be seen and released more quickly.
Veterans are seamlessly transitioned into Fast Track upon arrival to the ED if appropriate.
According to Bay Pines VAHCS leaders, the new program has already demonstrated a positive impact by decreasing ED wait times, improving patient flow, reducing waiting room congestion, and enhancing the overall quality of emergency care services.
“The project was driven by an organizational strategic initiative to ensure timely delivery of urgent medical care for patients presenting during non-traditional business hours,” explained Suzanne M. Klinker, Director, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
“When the idea for fast track was conceived, we empowered Medicine Service and Emergency Department leaders to make it happen. The choice to move forward with the project was the right decision for the Veterans we serve. They deserve exceptional health care services and a 5-star experience. The Fast Track program is another way we are working to meet those expectations,” she said.
The launch of the Fast Track program is one of several projects and initiatives underway as part of the Bay Pines VAHCS’s strategic plan.
