Bay Pines VAHCS to Host Legal Workshop June 29

Bay Pines, Fla - The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) will host a Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) Tenant’s Rights and Responsibility workshop for Veterans on Friday, June 29, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event will take place in the J.C. Cobb Room located on the first floor of the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center (building 100) at 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, Fla. 33744. Click here to view a campus map. Bay Area Legal Services in collaboration with Bay Pines VAHCS will present information regarding the following:
- How to ensure you receive your security deposit back and what to do if you do not receive it.
- What to do when needed repairs are not being addressed.
- How to respond to an eviction to ensure you preserve your rights
- When it is and is not appropriate to withhold rent, and how to do so properly to ensure you are not evicted
- What resources are available should you find yourself without housing
In addition, attorneys will be available to assist Veterans with addressing specific questions. The MLP program is a health and legal alliance between the Bay Pines VAHCS, Stetson University Veterans Law Institute, and Bay Area Legal Services. The program is designed specifically for Veterans enrolled for care with the BPVAHCS (some exceptions may apply), who need legal representation/consultation for non-criminal offenses, and who may not otherwise be able to afford legal representation. Veterans must also live in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, or Sarasota counties to be eligible for services.
