Bay Pines VA Recognized Nationally for Communications

BAY PINES, FL – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) was recognized nationally by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) for its commitment to public affairs and communications during VA's National Public Affairs Training Academy held August 1-5 in Dallas, Texas.
As part of the week-long training event, hundreds of public affairs officers, public affairs specialists, communicators, program specialists, and others from across the country gathered to take part in the annual VHA Communications Awards ceremony on August 6.
During the ceremony, the Bay Pines VAHCS received the following awards:
- 1st Place Tactic – Bay Visions News Brief Video Series – Educating and Information Veterans and their families through the delivery of quality news video.
Bay Visions News Brief is a video news product line that complements Bay Visions - a quarterly magazine distributed to Veterans, family members, VA employees and Volunteers, members of the general public and other stakeholders. Watch the videos here: www.baypines.va.gov/news/BVNB.asp
- 1st Place Tactic – Veteran Viewpoint Video Series – Highlighting personal VA health care stories from Southwest Florida Veterans
Veteran Viewpoint is an ongoing video series developed by the Bay Pines VAHCS that highlights personal VA health care stories from Veterans residing in southwest Florida. The VHA Communications Awards were established to recognize excellence in communications within the VHA. The awards encourage improvements to the quality and impact of communications programs and entries provide examples of best practices across the communications. This year’s award entries could be submitted in two general categories, public relations tactics and public relations campaigns, and several subcategories such as print, broadcast, digital media (web and social media), special events and more.
“There are so many good news stories that occur within our organization every day. From a lifesaving medical treatment and innovative research to assisting a homeless Veteran secure permanent housing and celebrating the service of our dedicated Volunteers – there is not a minute that goes by that we cannot celebrate the work we do in service to America’s Veterans,” said Suzanne M. Klinker, Director, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
“Our success and recognition during the 2016 VHA Communication Awards truly illustrates our commitment to informing and educating Veterans across the communities we serve,” she said.
