September 15, 2016

BAY PINES, FL – Nearly 100 VA mental health professionals and community partners came together to collaborate, listen and learn during the annual Bay Pines Mental Health Summit on August 31 at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center.

The purpose of the day-long event was to enhance the mental health and well-being of Veterans and their family members through increased collaboration between the VA and the community.   Specific focus areas of the summit included Veterans’ ability to access mental health services and suicide prevention.

In addition to presentations and facilitated learning sessions, several leaders had the opportunity to address attendees to include Congresswomen Kathy Castor – the elected U.S. Representative for Florida’s 14th District.

Several Veterans were featured during the summit and provided personal testimony of their mental health struggles and how they were individually able to recover with help from the VA and community agencies.

Those in attendance agreed that event’s like the annual mental health summit help the VA and the community engage in active dialogue that ultimately advances services provided to Veterans and their loved ones.
