Veterans Town Hall Scheduled for July 11 at C.W. Bill Young VAMC

June 6, 2016

Meeting to be focused on Veterans Choice Program and Community Care

BAY PINES, FL – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) will host a quarterly Veterans town hall meeting on Monday, July 11, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.  The event will take place at the J.C. Cobb room located on the first floor of the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center (building 100).  The focus of the meeting will be the Veterans Choice Program (VCP) and health care options available to Veterans in the community.

VA outreach services and special program representatives will also be available to assist Veterans.  Services available will include VA health care enrollment and eligibility; VA benefits and claims assistance; and patient advocate services. Veterans and their loved ones, congressional stakeholders, Veterans Service Organizations and other community partners with questions related to the VCP and care in the community are encouraged to attend.

VCP was implemented and operationalized across VA in an effort to improve Veterans’ access to health care by allowing eligible Veterans to use approved health care providers outside of VA.  The program was rolled out in late 2014 as part of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 (VACAA).  The program is administered by Health Net – one of two companies contracted nationally by VA to run the program.  To learn more about VCP, please visit www.va.gov/opa/choiceact/index.asp.

“Veterans with questions about the Veterans Choice Program are invited to speak with us so we may meet their needs and expectations of timely, quality healthcare,” said Suzanne M. Klinker, Director, Bay Pines VAHCS.  “As such, we are using our town hall on July 11 as an opportunity to hear directly from Veterans about the program and will be joined by our community health care partner, Health Net.”

“I encourage all Veterans with questions about the program to attend this focused meeting.  Feedback received will be valuable as VA and Health Net continue to move forward to improve the program,” she said.

This event is open to media. Media representatives interested in attending are encouraged to contact Jason Dangel, Public Affairs Officer, Bay Pines VAHCS, at 727-398-9531 or email vhabaypublicaffairs@va.gov prior to the event.
