Bay Pines VA Recognized Nationally for Patient Safety Practices

December 10, 2014

BAY PINES, FL – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) was recognized nationally as a 2014 Cornerstone Recognition Award gold winner by the VA National Center for Patient Safety on December 9. The healthcare system is one of 111 VA facilities nationwide to receive recognition, and one of only 65 that received the gold award.

The award recognizes facilities for work and efficiency completing work related to the root cause analysis (RCA) process, health care quality and patient safety. This is the fifth consecutive year the Bay Pines VAHCS has received gold status.

"This national recognition reflects our collective commitment and focus on patient safety and health care quality,” said Suzanne M. Klinker, Director, Bay Pines VAHCS.

“Our focus on patient safety is a top priority and lays the foundation for the delivery of personalized, proactive, patient-driven care to the men and women we serve across central southwest Florida,” she said.

The NCPS was established by VA in 1999 to develop and nurture a culture of safety throughout the Veterans Health Administration. The Cornerstone Recognition Award program was later established by the national center in 2008 to enhance the RCA process and recognize the work done in patient safety across the VA health care facilities across the country. RCA is the process VA health care facilities use to improve delivery of care. The RCA process helps patient safety and quality experts identify prevention strategies to mitigate health care-related adverse events or “close calls.”
