BAY PINES, FL – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) will host a Homeless Veterans Summit on October 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Dr. Carrie Robinson Center, located at 2990 Edison Avenue, Fort Myers, Fla. 33916.

The purpose of the summit is to bring together key stakeholders and community partners with the goal of developing a synchronous working plan for addressing the needs of Veterans who are homeless or at-risk for homelessness residing in Charlotte, Lee, and Collier Counties as well as other communities served by the Bay Pines VAHCS in southwest Florida.

During the event, VA officials and community experts will present information about new and ongoing initiatives and updates on homeless program services and VA benefits. Specific presentations provided during the event will include an overview of Bay Pines VAHCS homeless programs; Veterans Justice Outreach; Veteran Benefits (VBA); a question and answer panel with VA peer specialists in homeless programs; My HealtheVet and more.

Roger Casey, Director of Education and Dissemination from the National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans, will be the keynote speaker at the event.

"Our healthcare system offers a wide range of programs for homeless Veterans and those at risk for becoming homeless," said Suzanne M. Klinker, Director, Bay Pines VAHCS. "Even though we offer a myriad of services to this specific Veteran population, we cannot truly be successful without establishing and maintaining long-lasting partnerships with federal, state and local agencies who share our same goals."

"By hosting annual homeless summits across our healthcare system, we are able to come together as a community of Veteran advocates, learn from each other and combine our collective resources all in the name of ensuring the very best outcomes for the heroes we serve every day," she said.

Event admission is by invitation only. Media organizations are welcome to attend and encouraged to contact Jason Dangel, Public Affairs Officer, Bay Pines VAHCS at 727-398-9531 or email vhabaypublicaffairs@va.gov.
