Bay Pines VA Veterans Day Ceremony

honoring those who served, veterans day november 11 2010Bay Pines, FL – Bay Pines VA will commemorate Veterans Day with a ceremony on Thursday, November 11th at 10:00 am at the Bay Pines VA campus. 

The keynote speaker is Michael Jernigan.  Mr. Jernigan served in the United States Marine Corps, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Battalion.  In 2004, he was severely injured by an IED blast while on patrol in Iraq.   After extensive surgeries, reconstruction, and rehabilitation he has been able to take his experiences, along with the training provided to him by the Marine Corps and his family upbringing, and make a positive impact in the world around him.  He was featured in HBO’s "Alive Day" documentary and is currently fundraising for Southeastern Guide Dogs. 

Other speakers include Wallace Hopkins, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System Director and Vietnam Veteran, and Tom Bowman, Acting Deputy Network Director for VISN 8 and Vietnam Veteran.

An invitation is extended to all Veterans, their family and friends, and the general public to take this opportunity to honor and thank the men and women who have worn our Nation's uniform.   

Keswick Christian High School will perform various musical selections.  The ceremony will also include a firing salute, taps performance, artwork and military vehicle display. 

Parking is available nearby and shuttles will provide transportation for guests from parking lots to the ceremony area.  The venue is handicapped accessible.  A sign language interpreter will be available for the hearing impaired.  The venue is outdoors, please dress appropriately for inclement weather.
