Volunteer - Donate

Monetary donations made to the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System help to fund recreational activities, purchase amenities that improve the quality of life for patients in our Community Living Center (Nursing Home), Rehabilitation Units, Domiciliary, Mental Health, Hospice, and other long-term and acute care inpatient areas.

Donations may be made for use by a specific nursing unit or clinic or for a specific purpose.  Rest assured, regardless of whether or not the donation has a specified purpose, all donations go directly to support the veteran patients at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.

General Purpose

Donations to this account may be used for any patient activity, including: coffee, canteen books, toiletries, underwear, socks, alarm clocks, newspapers, magazines, bus passes, phone cards, hair cuts, shoe shine kits, etc.



Donations to this account are used to support Therapeutic Recreation programs throughout the medical center. This includes patient outings, parties, special events, entertainment, etc.


Social Work

Donations to this account are used for patient’s emergency needs including travel, lodging, food, etc. Social workers are responsible for dispensing this Fund. This fund utilizes approximately $5,000 annually.


Holiday Fund

Donations to this account are used to purchase gifts for patients who are in the hospital during the December holiday season. In December 2007, we spent approximately $4,000 for patient gifts.


Winter Sports Clinic

The Winter Sports Clinic, held in Snow Mass, Colorado, provides veterans with disabilities an opportunity for self-development and challenge through sports and leisure activities. At the Clinic, all participants are able to develop winter sports skills and take part in a variety of adaptive workshops, which demonstrate that having a physical or visual disability need not be an obstacle to an active, rewarding life.

Adaptive skiing with mono-skis and bi-skis; instruction in adaptive Alpine (downhill) and Nordic (cross-country) skiing for stand-up skiers, including the visually impaired; alternate activities including scuba diving, sled hockey, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, rock climbing, trap shooting, fencing, golf, Snow Cat/Gondola Rides and a trip to the Hot Springs; plus educational and instructional workshops on self-defense and other stimulating topics.

Donations to this account assist with hotel and/or airfare for veterans from our healthcare system to be able to attend this clinic.


National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans

Donations to this account are used to support the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans. This event occurs during Valentine’s Day Week each February. Funds in this account support gifts for patients, entertainment, parties, etc. The events planned to honor hospitalized veterans incur an expense of approximately $3,300 annually.


Golden Age Games

Donations to this account are used to assist veterans who are selected to participate in the Golden Age Games. These donations may assist with hotel and/or airfare.



Donations to this account go to the Hospice Program. These funds are used to purchase educational materials, supplies for bereavement programs, special meals for patients and their families, etc.


Women's Health Clinic

Donations to this account are used for our programs for women veterans including the Women's Health Clinic and Center for Sexual Trauma Program. Any monetary donations to the General Post Fund 1089 can be used by the Military Sexual Trauma program as well as the Women Veterans Health Program for items such as patient health education brochures, special items needed for the Women's Clinic, or for promotion of special events such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or Women's Health Month. These supplies are also sent to the VA Community Clinics for use by their patients.


VA Creative Arts Festival

Donations to this account are used to assist veterans whose artistic talents are recognized through their participation in this Festival. This national event is supported by veterans service organizations and VA, but veterans are responsible for their expenses.


Fisher House

Donations to this account are used to supplement activities at the Bay Pines Fisher House.


Blind Rehab

Donations to this account are used to provide items to veterans enrolled for care in the Visually Impaired Service Team Program.



Donations to this account are used to provide special items needs for the Operations Enduring / Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn veterans.


Mental Health Domiciliary Program

Donations to this account are used to provide special needs for the Mental Health Domiciliary veterans.
