Car Show

Hundreds attended the May 1st Car Show hosted by Downshifters of Brooklyn which raised $18,000 for the Veterans’ Recreation Fund

Monday, May 23, 2011

Down Shifters of Brooklyn hosted a car show at the Bay Pines campus on May 1st.  It was the first in several years that didn’t get rained out and under the beautiful Florida sunshine, the group was able to raise over $18,000 that they then generously donated to the Bay Pines Veterans’ Recreation Fund.  The recreation fund is used to provide outings and activities for our Veterans residing in our residential programs along with other recreational programs across the medical center.  The Down Shifters donation (and other generous donors) make it possible for VA staff to take some of our Vets to ball games, out to dinner, to theme parks and helps fund our “Grant a Dreams” program.  The Granting Dreams program is available to Veterans with a terminal diagnosis.  We work with the Vet, their family, and health care team to provide a memorable experience.  Some examples include family reunions, sailing trips, and even skydiving.  The donation also supports Vets participating in the Golden Age Games, Creative Arts Festival, and other national events.

Thank you Down Shifters for supporting our Vets and for your generosity.
