PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Lee County Healthcare Center
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this program is to create clinically-sound residents capable of functioning proficiently in an ambulatory care environment. The resident will gain the ability and confidence to adjust medication therapy in specialty clinics such as anticoagulation, diabetes, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure, and hyperlipidemia. Upon successful completion of this residency program, the resident will be prepared to work as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in an ambulatory care facility.
Core Rotations
- Orientation – 4 weeks
- Anticoagulation - longitudinal
- Pharmacy Aligned Care Team (PACT) - longitudinal
- Mental Health – 5 to 10 weeks
- Endocrinology – 5 to 10 weeks
- Women’s Health – 5 to 10 weeks
- Patient Safety/Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) – 5 weeks
- Drug Information - longitudinal
- Staffing - longitudinal
- Preceptorship – 5 weeks
- Project Management - longitudinal
Elective Rotations
Including but not limited to: (5 weeks each)
- Community Based Outpatient Clinic
- Infectious Disease (HIV PrEP and Hepatitis C Clinic)
- Home-Based Primary Care
- Nursing Home
Other opportunities:
- Completing Prior Authorization Drug Requests (PADRs) non-formulary consults
- Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FSHP) local chapter CE presentations
- Teach classes
- In-services
- Journal clubs
