On National Hire a Veteran Day VA announces upcoming employment and information fair in Tampa

March 21, 2013

BAY PINES, Fla. – In recognition of National Hire a Veteran Day, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital (JAHVH) and the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) will host a joint employment and information fair on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tampa VA Hospital.

During the event, Veterans and their families will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration and others to learn more about various services and benefits they may be qualified to receive. Veterans will also have the opportunity to meet with potential employers from the community. Only employers with active job openings will be participating. Additionally, employment skill enhancement services will be offered such as resume writing and review, and interview training.

In addition to the services targeted specifically for Veterans and their families, job opportunities for nursing and other health care professionals will be available. VA is actively hiring for a variety of positions within the Tampa and St. Petersburg areas. Positions include respiratory therapists, phlebotomists, medical technologists and all levels in the nursing career field from nursing assistants to experienced registered nurses.

Interested health care applicants will be able to view and apply for jobs at the Bay Pines VAHCS and JAHVH. Hiring managers and recruitment experts will be onsite to answer questions about specific vacancies and will also conduct interviews with qualified candidates. Tentative job offers may be extended to qualified professionals pending required license verifications, physical exams, background checks and other administrative actions.

Individuals interested in seeking employment with the VA are asked to bring a current copy of their resume that includes license information, detailed work history, and a references list. A valid form of government issued identification is also required.

The Veterans job and information fair will be held at the JAHVH at 13000 Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in Tampa. For more information, contact the JAHVH human resources at 1-800-972-2000 ext. 7584.
