Bay Pines VA to hold Veteran, Community Open House at new Lee County VA Healthcare Center

BAY PINES, FL - The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System will host a Veteran and community open house at the new Lee County VA Healthcare Center on Dec. 8 from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The event is open to Veterans, their families and friends, civic leaders and members of the general public.
The event will give Veterans, their families and local community members an opportunity to see inside the new state-of-the-art facility prior to opening on Dec. 17.
Select VA services will also be available during the event to include health care enrollment assistance, benefits information and more. Light refreshments will be available. No reservations are required to attend this event.

About the Lee County VA Healthcare Center
The Lee County VA Healthcare Center is part of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System headquartered in Bay Pines, Florida. Annually, the entire system provides care for approximately 100,000 Veterans and employs about 3,800 clinical and administrative staff.
The new 220,000 square foot outpatient facility will open to serve Veterans on Monday, December 17, 2012. The facility, which will replace the VA clinic currently located in Fort Myers, will greatly expand the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System’s ability to provide primary and specialty health care services to the Veterans of southwest Florida.
Despite being more about four times larger than the Fort Myers location, the new facility is a very large outpatient care center - not a hospital. There will be no hospital beds or overnight stays when the facility opens.
Special features of the new Lee County VA Healthcare Center include an open floor plan with significant natural lighting; energy efficient building management equipment; enhanced communication to include video conferencing and Telehealth; and a coffee Bistro for patients, family, and staff.
