Bay Pines is pleased to announce that the new Radiation and Oncology Center will begin seeing patients for consults in early April and begin treating these patients by mid April.
Some of the technology that will be used in the center includes Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) which is a high-precision radiotherapy that delivers precise radiation doses to specific areas within a tumor. The radiation dose is designed to conform to the shape of the tumor by focusing a higher radiation dose to the tumor while minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding tissues. RapidArc radiotherapy delivers treatments two to eight times faster than other treatments with increased precision. RapidArc delivers a precise dose that enables physicians to improve the standard of care and treat more patients.
Some of the cutting edge equipment that will be used in the center includes a Varian Trilogy Linear Accelerator, which is a radiation treatment machine and a Phillips large-bore CT-scanner, which is an imaging machine that is used to identify the tumor size and location in the body.
Media tours are available from 8:30-9:45 a.m. the day of the event.
