Bay Pines VA Healthcare System
We can help you Walk With Ease
What is Walk With Ease?
Walk With Ease is a fitness program that can reduce pain and improve your overall health. This six-week, joint-friendly program, can be done by Veterans in the comfort of their own neighborhood, mall, or wherever you prefer. You do not have to go somewhere or attend a class.
Walk With Ease is an evidence-based program developed over 10 years ago by the Arthritis Foundation and is available to Florida Veterans, their families and friends over 18 years of age, as well as all VA employees and volunteers. This grant, awarded by the Florida Department of Health, is a first ever collaboration between the VA and the Florida Department of Health. Bay Pines’ Walk With Ease (WWE) Program has been so successful that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is showcasing it in CDC’s 2012 Arthritis at a Glance report!
Who can participate?
Veterans, their families and friends, and VA employees and volunteers over 18 years of age, who can stand for 10 minutes without pain and who may have:
- Joint pain
- Cartilage damage
- Disability from military service
- Walking profiles and have to lose weight
- A desire to vary or expand their physical activity regimen
How does it work?
We can design a process that works best for you. Interested participants who reside by or near Bay Pines can schedule an appointment with Randelle Arena, our Walk With Ease Program Representative, at (727)398-6661 extension 7759.
At enrollment, Veterans receive a Walk With Ease manual and participant materials to successfully start walking if they haven’t, continue walking if they already do so, or incorporate walking into their weight-lifting/physical activity regimen.
Walk With Ease is still relatively new—since August 2011 – and many Veterans still do not know they have this free service available to them.
