volunteers painting benches

HandsOn Volunteers completed multiple projects to show their love and respect for America’s Veterans. Pictured here, the volunteers are painting benches where Veterans sit to admire the view or go fishing as part of the VA’s recreation therapy programs.

HandsOn Tampa Bay Day 2011 is part of Florida Volunteer Month, which promotes the spirit of volunteerism throughout Florida and raises awareness about how volunteering changes lives and strengthens communities.  United Way’s HandsOn Tampa Bay (HOT) teamed up with Bay Pines VA Healthcare System to celebrate HandsOn Tampa Bay on April 29th with special volunteer projects at the VA campus in Pinellas County.

More than 250 volunteers convened on the campus Saturday morning to complete a variety of projects to benefit the Veterans served at Bay Pines.  They gathered up over 60 bags of shoreline trash, leaves, and debris; dispersed over 40 yards of mulch; painted campus benches and other markers; and helped round up our wheelchairs so that they could be counted and serviced.

Bay Pines has thousands of volunteers each year who love our Veterans and assist us in serving them.  If you are interested in volunteering at Bay Pines VA or one of our Community Clinics, check out our Volunteer or Donate page for more information.
