On Tuesday evening, October 26th, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System sponsored a "Lady Veterans Night Out" to welcome home and assist our women returning from service. Approximately 15% of those currently serving in the military are women and serve right alongside their male counterparts in a variety of roles; most commanders say they could not fulfill their mission without the women in their unit.
Military women provide a unique service and when they return home they have unique needs. Readjusting to the multiple roles a woman plays in her civilian life can be difficult, especially after long deployments. This event was specifically targeted toward Operation Enduring & Iraqi Freedom women Veterans to help ease their transition but we also welcomed women Veterans who served at any time.
Many VA staff along with Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, Pinellas County Veterans Services, and many other community partners who provide services to Veterans supported the event as vendors and shared information about a variety of services and benefits women Veterans are eligible for. In addition, the event offered pampering services like massages and makeovers for our deserving Veterans. Over 70 women Veterans attended and many proclaimed what a nice engagement it was and how much they appreciated the information and an event specifically dedicated toward them and their unique needs.
Bay Pines would like to thank all of those who contributed to the success of the event by either attending or providing donations.
