Case conferences are held weekly in the acute psychiatry inpatient unit. These conferences are attended by a variety of mental health professionals such as physician assistants and medical students, Interns and residents. A newly admitted patient is presented and is usually interviewed by a medical or PA student, psychology Intern, or psychiatric resident. The primary focus of the conference is diagnosis and case conceptualization.
A Trauma Case Conference is offered monthly. The goal of the conference is to foster discussion and ideas to improve mental health care of trauma survivors. This is an attempt to integrate knowledge, skills, and services of several mental health and behavioral science sections.
Interns are required to present at any one of the Case Conferences or Grand Rounds. The presentations can either be alone, or as part of a presentation made by a staff member.
In addition, Interns are required to do three presentations to the Training Committee during the internship year. Two of these are case presentations, one of which must include formal assessment of personality and psychopathology, and the other must include cognitive or neuropsychological assessment. The final presentation is to be focused on an empirically-supported treatment.
